US Military Conducts Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities
According to a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the American military executed a lethal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”
Background and Recent Strikes
This announcement follows a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to increase the military presence.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Defends Tactics Amid Scrutiny
The government has faced growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.
Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”
This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's sitting leadership.
