Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
