NY Unveils Portal for Public to Report Immigration Videos After Detentions of Four American Citizens

The state attorney general has rolled out a fresh digital platform asking residents to submit images and footage of federal immigration enforcement across New York. This move follows a shortly after a significant enforcement action disrupted NYC's Chinatown, triggering large-scale protests.

American Citizens Arrested In Enforcement Action

A US congressman revealed during a Wednesday press conference that four citizens were taken into custody and detained for "about 24 hours" following the enforcement action. Rallies erupted in NYC on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Each citizen is entitled to live without fear," the AG declared in a statement.

"For those who saw and documented federal operations recently, I ask you to provide that material with the authorities. We are committed to reviewing these reports and evaluating any violations of law."

Portal Features

The portal provides spaces to submit images and video footage of the operation, as well as a section to specify geographic details. Prior to sending, users must mark a box that acknowledges that "the office could utilize any documents, photographs, or videos in a legal proceeding, such as in a court case or public report."

Details of the ICE Action

The Manhattan operation, which onlookers say featured over fifty federal agents, happened in a famous area of the city where imitation products and other goods are sold daily widely – typically to sightseers.

Footage of Tuesday's raid depict multiple hooded and equipped officers restraining and arresting a individual, and forcing aside onlookers. Masses of locals pursued the officers down the sidewalks. An military-style transport was observed moving along the urban roads.

Leadership Statements

In a Wednesday press conference featuring the New York immigrant rights coalition, Representative Goldman, a Democrat, stated that four nationals were taken by federal agents for about 24 hours and that there were "no conditions where nationals should be taken for unjustly." He noted the persons were let go on Wednesday with no charges filed.

"The goal is evident here. It is not focused on deporting lawbreakers," Goldman stated. "This constitutes a military-style operation to provoke unrest. It is purely a pretext to generate turmoil for this administration to bring in the armed forces to prevent conflict that they have created."

Extensive Outcry

Anger over the ICE raid escalated – every NYC mayor hopefuls condemned the operation, along with Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Repeatedly, the federal government selects authoritarian theatrics that instill panic, rather than security. It must stop," one mayoral candidate wrote.

New York City immigrant rights groups voiced concern too.

"ICE targeted the neighborhood with armored transports, hooded officers and tactical gear to go after local sellers trying to make a living. This operation had nothing to do with public safety and focused completely on frightening communities and neighborhoods," said the president of a rights organization.

Official Guidelines

ICE policy bans the arrest of American nationals and the agency has stated it refrains from arrest or detain US citizens. However, independent reporting has found that more than 170 citizens have been taken illegally by immigration authorities since the start of the present government.

Ongoing Trend

ICE raids have been cropping up increasingly in New York and nationwide lately.

A mid-October raid in central NYC was the earliest reported action on an housing center of the current administration. Rallies targeting ICE are widespread including claims of force and inhumane treatment.

Latest, a submission provided by advocacy organizations stated medical neglect of women with child in detention centers.
