Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

It said debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
