Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor stands accused of committing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.

The Grave Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges follow what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

List of Charges

The charging documents outline the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.

Police are urging anyone with concerns to contact the relevant police force.
